Photos: Red Bull Flugtag - Long Beach 2013

For those of you who do not know me, I am Squigglemom, Trish Tsoiasue.  I am an amateur videographer, reveling in my amateurism.  Also, if you're reading this post, it's because you enjoy fun, funny, unusual, ridiculous ideas, scenes and more.  I have a special ask of you at the end of the post.  It's proving to be all of the above and more!

Red Bull Flugtag, Long Beach 2013

I was thrilled to be at the Red Bull Flugtag in Long Beach.  Red Bull gives us grownups (18+) a chance to be a kid again; a chance to create everlasting memories with our best buddies; a chance to do something terrifying and ridiculous in front of thousands of spectators and millions of viewers online and on TV.

The goal?  Cameraderie and fun wrapped in a contest that cumulatively involved thousands of hours of team and volunteer work.

The show promised that every team would be visually different; that every team would crash at the end (it's one of the few times when a crash is enjoyable); that the entire team had only one way to exit the ramp - to jump into the drink.  And yes, there was a contest too!  Distance - It IS an airshow. Creativity of Craft - This promises a visually exciting experience for us spectators!  Showmanship - You've got to be silly.  If you're the Chicken Whisperers, you don't do the chicken dance - that's expected. 

I captured some great photos, some good photos, some really terrible ones.  I also got some awesome behind the scene video of the JetLev team getting ready for their exhibition at the start of the event.

I did, however, miss the most important moments of the day.  What can I say?  I got off the media boat and had to do a quick - ahem - restroom run.  As I emerged from the blue room, I could hear the announcer.... "I think we have a record!  The previous record was 238' and this is definitely further!"... or something like that.

Yikes!  I had missed the record setting 258' flight by The Chicken Whisperers from San Francisco, CA! Sad face.

So, enjoy the photos and videos that I did get, feel my pain for the videos I didn't get.
