Update: Man Stabbed in Belmont Shore at Dinner Hour

Long Beach police say a suspect was arrested.

Editor's Note: An updated story can be found here, though it does not have some of this police and background detail.

A fight between two men at a Belmont Shore restaurant Saturday night left one stabbed and the other arrested, Long Beach Police said.

Witnesses to the stabbing and aftermath told Patch readers in comments that the victim had been inside the Sushi on Fire restaurant at the corner of 2nd Street and Pomona Avenue at 6:30 p.m.

A reader sent this photo of the victim before paramedics arrived, and an off-duty Hermosa Beach fire department medic said Sunday that he attempted to stop the man's bleeding as people ran in and out of the restaurant for cloth napkins to help stop the bleeding.

Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton added further detail later Sunday, saying that the victim, who was not named, had been stabbed in the upper torso and was in critical but stable condition earlier Sunday at a hospital. Eaton said the fight was at the Sushi On Fire restaurant in the 5300 block of Second Street.

Suspect Robert Campbell, 30, of Long Beach, was arrested at the scene and booked for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Eaton said.

One patron at a nearby restaurant said she and her dining companions could see a lot of people gathering on the sidewalk and ran over to investigate.
"Both men were outside when a large crowd gathered to see the fellow pictured downed and bleeding from a knife wound.  Police responded within minutes."

"It took approximately 10 minutes for the paramedics to arrive," the Saturday night diner continues. "An unidentified man was holding a pack down on the wound of the assaulted man and policeman also administering assistance until medical assistance arrived and took the wounded man away.

"A suspect was seen handcuffed and placed in back of one of the police units.  The street was blocked off with evidence tape and traffic on 2nd street heading north/west bound was diverted."
