4 Hurt When Transit Bus Rear-Ended in Long Beach

The Saturday midday collision sends four passengers to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

Four passsengers were injured and possibly six on Saturday when the transit district bus on which they were riding was rear-ended by a vehicle at a Long Beach stop, transit officials said.

Four people who'd been on the Line 232 bus at the time of the crash were transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with complaints of neck and shoulder pain, said Helen Ortiz-Gilstrap of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Two other people on the bus complained of pain, she said, but refused any medical attention. The crash at Anaheim Street and Santa Fe Avenue occurred about 10:40 a.m., and the Metro spokeswoman said it was not immediately known if the motorist in the vehicle was cited or arrested.

No one in the vehicle suffered injuries but ``there was some damage to the rear of the bus. To what extent, I don't know,'' Ortiz-Gilstrap said. Line 232 runs on Long Beach Boulevard, Anaheim Street and Pacific Coast Highway from downtown Long Beach to LAX.

It is an LA Metro bus, however, not that of Long Beach Transit District.
