Nancy Woo is a freeelance writer who lives in Naples. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Sociology, a minor in Literature and an emphasis in Environmental Studies. The journalism program was cut the year she began as a freshman, but she has always been an avid reader and writer, and is enjoying getting her feet wet in the world of media journalism.

During her four years in Santa Cruz, she pursued writing and research opportunities in the form of an internship at the daily newspaper, where she wrote feature stories. She also worked for two years as a writing tutor, a position which she found extremely rewarding, and for three years as an environmental student leader for Waste Reduction.

Trying to cram a wide variety of interests into a specific program of study has been challenging, bringing her to the conclusion that she is a generalist and a writer by nature, making journalism a seemingly appropriate line of work for the immediate post-college years.

She has been a freelance reporter for Patch since its launch in January 2011, and also works as an editor for the music website OnlineRock.com, where she writes CD reviews, interviews bands and manages the blog and social networking sites.

Some of her favorites topics to write about, think about, talk about and discover include film, literature, music, yoga, philosophy, the environment, education, hiking and camping, health and fitness, poetry and local arts.
