WackyCapNTrish: Penguin Babies! What's not to love?

Everyone loves Penguins, Everyone loves Babies! Magellanic Baby Penguins being moved to their public display at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

WackyTrish went to see the baby penguins being moved to the public penguin display.  If you want to know our Wacky story: read this.

Penguin Babies!

Two Magellanic Penguin chicks made their first public appearance today at the June Keyes Penguin Habitat at the Aquarium of the Pacific.  Their parents are Roxy and Floyd.  One is called Heidi, the other is yet to be named.

They were born in June and were cared for behind the scenes of the aquarium.  Now some 90 days later, their downy newborn feathers have been replaced with water-tight, sub-adult feathers.

Magellanic Penguins are native to Argentina and Chile in South America and prefer a more temperate climate than tAntarctic penguins, making them ideal for... Southern California!  An interesting fact is that they hatch with their eyes closed and they are only able to open them a week later.

How to See the Babies

If you are in the Southern California Area you can get up close and personal with the baby penguins.

1/ Visit the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach (open 9am to 6pm daily) http://www.aquariumofpacific.org for ticket prices.
2/ Be one of the first two to check in each day on Four Square and you can go behind the scenes at the Penguin exhibit.
3/ Visit them during their daily meet-and-greets at the Molina Animal Care Center at the Aquarium.

If you are not in the Southern California area, you can still see the penguins!
