Santa, Please Bring Me... The Internet

We're trying to build a game development program but we don't have... the Internet!

To the Reader: You may know that I've been visualizing a local youth-based Maker program in Long Beach, CA for some time.  Well, it's happening... Slowly (or is that quickly?), but it's happening... We made a lot of progress this year, but we've got lots of plans for next year!

Dear Santa,

I know you're busy Santa, but there's one more thing that I want to ask for this year.  You see, we're making a very cool computer based program at the Long Beach Sea Base but we've run into a bit of an obstacle.  It's kind of a big deal, and I think you'll be surprised that we don't have it at the Sea Base.  It's the Internet.

I know, this is Long Beach, ultra-urban and how can we not?  Well, we do have a phone line and a DSL connection, but as I understand it, we're so far from the DSL provider's central office, the signal is pretty weak.

Santa, high speed internet is hard to come by East of Appian Way.  We've got us lots of computers and a teeny tiny DSL line.  It's so tiny that you can't even watch a single YouTube video without waiting a really long time for the video to transfer.  If we can't watch YouTube, Santa, how can we learn anything?

Santa, I know this memory is vague, but I remembered that someone had talked of funding that would cover this sort of thing - bringing internet connectivity to community centers.  So Santa, if you can help me to find out how to apply for this funding... I'd like us to apply for it.

I mean. We're trying to develop games for the internet... and without the internet... Well... it's really hard.

Thank you, Santa, if you or the elves can help to bring me the internet, I would be very happy!

Thank you,
Your Friend,
Squigglemom

PS. Santa, This is the last letter from me this year.  I know you'll do your best to help to get us what we need.
