Delaney- The "Cone Head"

Delaney is spayed and wears an Elizabethean collar for 2 weeks!

Delaney has had the unique opportunity to wear an Elizabethean Collar following her surgery to be spayed. Some of the female dogs with Guide Dogs of America become breeder dogs and provide puppies for the program. All of the breeder dogs must go through extensive testing to ensure they are top quality dogs. Delaney did not pass the Breeder testing and will go into the Guide Dog Training program.

So, back to the collar.

Although she had to wear it for two weeks, it took her quite some time to get used to it. She had trouble going up and down stairs (she learned to lift up her head so she wouldnt hit the steps). She found out if she dropped the ball when it was in the cone, it just stayed there and she could pop it out and recapture it. The positive sides were that it certainly helped me out in giving her antibiotics (if she spit the pills out, they went inside the cone and could be easily retrieved). If Delaney could speak, I think the best part of it was that she did not have to sleep in her crate (her collar was too big)! She was tethered by her sleeping pad and seemed to enjoy being out of the crate at night!
