According to Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt, Stewart was on foot with a group of others described as males due to not knowing their ages; they were on Ohio Avenue, south of Anaheim Street, when another group of males approached, and the groups got into a fight. Pratt said in an e-mailed press release that someone fired several shots into the victim's group, and the victim was wounded numerous times.

He later died at the hospital, Pratt said.
