Comically Outrageous Kathy Griffin Comes to Town

The veteran comic and star of her own reality TV show will perform at Long Beach's Terrace Theater for the first time.

Comic-provocateur Kathy Griffin's self-effacing, sometimes outrageous wit  will take on the establishment in back-to-back shows Saturday at the Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. The question is, what will she pull off this time?

She has been on all manner of reality programming, she has had extensive cosmetic surgery and then detailed every inch of it for the public. While Griffin has a long history of stand-up in addition to her many television appearances, it will be her first time performing at the Terrace Theater and she will do so twice—at 7:30 p.m. and again at 9:30 p.m.—in a television-taping for a Live Nation production.

SMG, which manages the convention center, is giving the comedian a warm reception.

“We look forward to hosting this comedic superstar and her provocative humor,” Dan Spellens, director of Theaters & Entertainment for SMG, said in a statement.

Those arriving early to Griffin’s comedy act will be able to enjoy the new pre-concert outdoor event lounge and eatery at the Terrace Theater Plaza, which will open at 4:30 p.m. to accommodate guests. It will close when Griffin begins her first show of the evening.

Griffin’s rise to fame can be traced back to the Los Angeles Groundlings improv comedy group, HBO comedy specials and her role on ABC’s reality competition, Celebrity Mole, in which she emerged victorious.

In years since, she has hosted reality shows and starred in her own—Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which won two Emmys and was nominated for several more. Other accolades include Grammy nominations, being a New York Times Bestselling author and recipient of the 2009 GLAAD Vanguard award.

Tickets for Griffin’s act range from $39.50 to $55 and can be purchased via phone at (800) 745-3000 or online from Ticketmaster, as well at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center Main Box Office located at 300 E. Ocean Boulevard.

Box office hours are from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from noon-4 p.m. For more information, click here.
