Celebrate National Zoo and Aquarium Month in Long Beach

Visit your local Long Beach aquarium with your kids in June for fun—and learning—under the sea.

Summer is the best time of year to catch a glimpse of sea horses and sharks up close and personal—and you don't even have to leave Long Beach or get wet to see them. 

June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month, when you can learn about wildlife and sea creatures close to your home—and some times for free or for a small donation in the Long Beach area.

You can celebrate in Long Beach by checking out the sharks, eels and other sea creatures at these aquariums in or within easy driving distance of Long Beach:

Aquarium of the Pacific | Long Beach
The largest aquarium in Los Angeles, Aquarium of the Pacific features more than 11,000 animals and more than 50 exhibits highlighting the creatures of the Pacific Ocean. Touch tanks offer visitors a chance to touch sharks, stingrays and other creatures. Other highlights include the penguin exhibit and the baby harbor seals.
  • Location: 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach
  • Hours: Mon-Sun: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Price: $25.95 for general admission. Other packages, add-ons and features also available for an additional fee.
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium | San Pedro
Boasting the largest collection of Southern California marine life in the world, this free aquarium is one of the largest in Los Angeles County and features a range of sea creatures from jelly fish to sharks.
  • Location: 3720 Stephen M. White Drive, San Pedro
  • Hours: Tu-Fri: Noon - 5 p.m. | Sa-Sun: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Price: Free, $5 donation per adult and $1 per child suggested
