Beach Babes on Bikes to Cruise Belmont Shore July 15

The ride is encouraging women to get active in a charity event.

While cyclists compete in the grueling competition that is the Tour de France, the upcoming Beach Babe Bicycling Classic is inviting riders of all ages and experience levels to get off the couch and on a bike for a festive tour of Belmont Shore and beyond.
.
On July 15, riders donning everything from tutus to racing gear will take over the coast between Long Beach and Huntington Beach as they tour the towns between in what can be described as a party on wheels.

The round-trip journey starts 8 a.m. at the Marina Green Park, located at 386 E. Shoreline Drive, Long Beach, and offers an option of either a 15-mile or 36-mile trek. The course will wind around the peninsula, through the canals of Naples, past Seal Beach, Sunset Beach and onward.

Most of the ride will be on desingated paths, although a small portion will take place in painted lanes on the PCH.

Pre-registration ends July 13 and is required for the ride, which sold out last year. The $80 cost includes bike taxis for those unable to complete the course, water taxis, rest stop support, tech support, European-style fare, gifts and more, according to the web site.

Additionally, more than $3000 in prizes and custom finisher's medals will be awarded, and a Beach Party & Expotique awaits cyclists at the finish line, providing music, food and shopping opportunities.

The event will also benefit HealthCorps, a charity founded by Dr. Oz and his wife, Lisa Oz, to fight childhood  obeisty, with 100 percent of donations going directly to the nonprofit.

Designed to inspire women to take control of their fitness in a setting espousing comaraderie in lieu of competition, the Beach Babe Bicycling classic is the brain child of Janae Noble. She founded the ride two two years ago, according to an article from the Long Beach Press-Telegram (read more here...)
