'Sons of Anarchy' Actor Awarded Pole Position for Celebrity Pro Race

The winner of the pole chooses a charity to receive a $15,000 donation.

Actor Kim Coates was awarded the pole position for today’s Pro/Celebrity Race of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach based on the morning practice times after rain caused the cancellation of qualifying Friday.

The winner of the pole chooses a charity to receive a $15,000 donation. Coates, a cast member of the FX drama "Sons of Anarchy,'' chose One Heart Source.

The race's other participants include actors Adrien Brody, Eddie Cibrian, William Fichtner, Hill Harper, actresses Kate Del Castillo and Eileen Davidson, television and radio host Adam Carolla, reality television personality Brody Jenner, “Good Day LA'' anchor Jillian Barberie Reynolds and former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.

They will all drive identical race-ready Scion tC sports coupes on the 1.97-mile, 11-turn street circuit surrounding the Long Beach Convention Center. Fichtner is the defending champion.

Rain also canceled qualifying for Saturday's American Le Mans Series race. Its class pole sitters will be determined by 2012 season point standings.

Qualifying for the IndyCar Series and Indy Lights races and a concert by
the rock group Joan Jett & the Blackhearts are scheduled for Saturday.
