Scene: Friday Night Lights Opening Night. And...Action!

The popular league's season begins with hundreds of kids from Long Beach, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach competing in fierce, non-tackle football.

Hundreds of young football players, cheerleaders and parents braved the cold and the rainy forecast for opening night of the Friday Night Lights spring season.

From kindergarten through eighth-grade, players gathered at Oak field to kick off the popular flag football season. The league is named after the 2004 movie and 2006 television spin-off series (although they played traditional tackle football in the acclaimed TV series).  The league is the brainchild of Mark Broersma and Chris Ketcham, who live in Rossmoor. And hundreds of Belmont Shore area youths compete.
