Mercy Me: Long Beach PONY Topples Dominican Republic in World Series Play
Long Beach avenges its only loss in PONY World Series with a 20-10 mercy rule victory against team from Santo Domingo.
This time, it was no contest.
Long Beach PONY All-Stars avenged its only loss during World Series competition by defeating the team from the Dominican Republic, 20-10, Tuesday at the PONY 14 World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Against Santo Domingo, Long Beach came out quickly, taking a 10-0 lead. But that lead was erased in the top of the fourth, as the DR team scored 10 runs in the inning – six off Long Beach starter Josh Goldberg and four more off reliever Will Johnston.
But Long Beach’s offense was firing, breaking the tie in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs.

In the bottom of the fifth, Long Beach scored eight more including a walk-off double from Andrew Brown. PONY rules state if a team is ahead by 10 runs after five innings, the game is over.
In all, Long Beach had 16 hits while not committing an error in the field.
