Man Fights Swordfish For 16 Hours

Barry Brightenburg lost a 16-hour battle with a swordfish; great calico bass fishing this week and fun times on the Huntington Beach Pier for the Huck Finn/Becky Thatcher Fishing Event.

The San Diego tuna bite was excellent for the boats willing to make the 150-mile journey from Point Loma. Big catches of bluefin and yellowfin tuna were still being made through the weekend.

There were a few tuna being taken as close as 80 miles from San , just a few. Anglers are hopeful that this may develop into a new area of tuna fishing closer to home.

“The fish are hitting on sardines, and chrome and blue jigs. It is a very good idea to have some 30-pound, floral-carbon line, ring hooks and a rod belt too,” said skipper Scott McDaniels, of the Sea Adventure 80.
