Locals in U.S. Water Polo Match Today

Long Beach has two players on the national team that takes on Argentina in a final exhibition game.

The U.S. men's national water polo team, with two Long Beach players, will face Argentina today at Northwood High School in its final exhibition game before beginning the UANA World Aquatics Championship Qualification Tournament. That match is Wednesday in Calgary, Alberta.

Today's game will begin at 5:30 p.m. The U.S. defeated Argentina, 16-6, Wednesday at USC.

The 13-member U.S. team includes four players from the team that finished eighth at the London Olympics, center Ryan Bailey, goalkeeper Chay Lapin - both from Long Beach - utility player Jeff Powers and defender Jesse Smith.

Bailey and Lapin are among the four Los Angeles County residents on the team, joined by attacker Nikola Vavic (Rancho Palos Verdes) and center Jeff Schwimer (Beverly Hills)
