LB Wilson High Grad Zach Wilson Drafted By Yankees

The Arizona State third baseman was taken in the 21st round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Zach Wilson, a member of Long Beach Wilson High School’s nationally No. 1-ranked baseball team in 2007, was selected by the New York Yankees Tuesday in the 21st round of the Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft with the 659th pick overall.

Wilson just completed his junior season at Arizona State.  The third baseman hit .270 for the Sun Devils this season with seven home runs (second on the team) and 44 RBI (third) and a stellar .990 fielding percentage.

Wilson was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 Conference selection as a sophomore when he hit .349 with eight homers and 45 RBI while spending most of his time as designated hitter.  He was a part-time starter as a freshman, when he helped ASU to the College World Series.
