Fred Hall Show: Long Beach Lures Biggest Boat Event in State

An estimated 100,000 will likely visit this year's exhibition which ends Sunday.

As Capt. Dan Hernandez of Belmont Shore might attest, hundreds of thousands of people over 65 years have flocked to the annual mega outdoors show at the Long Beach Convention Center through Sunday. Simply called Fred Hall by devotees, an estimated 100,000 will likely visit this year's Wednesday-through-Sunday event. Full days of workshops are offered throughout the cavernous halls on how to fly fish and other manufacturer meets so you can talk over your reel or other new toy. There are salt tanks, bass tanks, halls of products and people there to get tips from. More details at http://www.fredhall.com/

The Fred Hall Show is already one of the largest outdoors events on the West Coast, and this year it boasts being the largest boat show in California. Halls of the Convention Center have power boats large and small, and lots of dreamers ogling them, as you will see in our video (abover right). Also in the video are Dan, a well-known charter boat operator whose boats are moored in Naples, and Henry Kamamoto of Belmont Shore and the 85-year-0ld Long Beach Casting Club.

The show tends to get people fired up for fishing and camping, and repeat visitors can rekindle old friendships and the spirit of the outdoors. This year they can get a free Fred Hall iPhone App.   App Store has the free download.
