Rogers Tree Planting This Morn Needs Volunteers

Belmont Shore's middle school will be graced with new greenery but planters are asked to pitch in.

Calling all Jane and Johnny Appleseeds! Your help is needed Saturday morning to plant trees at Will Rogers Middle School.

An e-mail request from the PTA President Andrea Walker reminded parents of the 900-student campus at Monrovia and Appian Way that the tree project is coming to fruition. The Belmont Shore students and community largely paid for bamboo and trees with funds raised with campus recycling collections.

Wrote Walker: "Here is the message that Mr. Sheldon has posted on School Loop.  Just wanted to make sure everyone saw it, and if you have the time, it would be great to see you at Rogers tomorrow!

'We need student and parent volunteers to help plant trees this Saturday.  All trees have been purchased with money raised by recycling and a generous donation from the PTA.  The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude when all trees have been properly planted.  Protective clothing and sunscreen are highly recommended.  Other useful items might include gardening gloves, a wheelbarrel, and your own personal shovel.   Contact person is Mr. Sheldon.  Hope you can lend a hand!'"

Editor's Note: Patch will be photographing the fun, but please mention if you do not wish for your child to be photographed. We will not name students. But if you take some pictures, post them here! You can also post them in our Neighborhood Gallery of photos, or e-mail them to nancy.wride@patch.com
