Revolution in Education

Naples 5th graders role-play the nation's founding in an annual presentation.

Part drama, part game show, part history lesson and by the looks of it, all fun, fifth graders participated in the Walk Through the American Revolution presentation Friday at Naples Bayside Academy. Along with wearing costumes of the period--some made their own wigs out of cotton balls--the students portrayed historic characters and acted out battles and other key scenes from the nation's founding. It's come to be an annual rite at many California schools, including Naples. Fifth grade teacher Lisa Strauss's students, 10 and 11 years old, competed in teams to demonstrate their knowledge of that era in U.S. history.
