New CSULB Science Hall Largest in Cal State System

The $105 million building is also the largest capital investment in the university's history.

The largest science building in the Cal State University system will be dedicated today at Cal State Long Beach. The celebration for the Hall of Science, the largest capital project in CSULB's 62-year history celebration will be at 11 a.m.

The $105 million building recently opened in the fall and contains newly-furnished laboratories, greenhouses and lecture halls for students fulfilling their major requirements and those that are interested in research and interactive learning. The building also serves as the last addition to the Natural Sciences Complex. The project was initiated in 2008 and was successfully completed this year despite a 3-month hiatus in 2009.

Robert Decker, founding member of the Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute and professor emeritus of medicine and cell and molecular biology at the Northwestern University School of Medicine, will dedicate and discuss the new home to would-be scientists.

“CSULB has long been a campus of choice and a leader in undergraduate research," said Maryanne Horton, Director of Development for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at CSULB. "The new Hall of Science will only enhance CSULB's appeal to students who wish to pursue degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields; and [it will] help ensure its position as first in the nation among master's-granting universities in producing graduates who go on to earn doctoral degrees in science and technology research fields.”

Visitors and students will also have the opportunity to view new research laboratories, lecture halls and places like the Science Learning Center, Environmental Geochemistry Lab among many other places within the new building following the ceremony.
