Long Beach City College Graduation Tonight

The commencement speech will be given by author and OC Weekly editor Gustavo Arrellano.

Thousands of guests, students and alumni will gather at Veterans Stadium tonight to participate in the Long Beach City College graduation ceremony, which will feature Gustavo Arrellano, author and syndicated columnist.

“Commencement is my favorite day of the year, and I congratulate every one of our graduates." said Eloy Oakley’s who will be marking his sixth commencement as LBCC’s Superintendent-President this year, in a statement.  "I hope they take the experience and knowledge gained at Long Beach City College into their next great endeavor and into four year institutions or the work place,” Oakley said.

Gustavo Arrellano, who is also a product of the community college system, is well known for his "Ask a Mexican" syndicated column and books, and is the editor of OC Weekly.

"I'm honored to give the commencement speech at LBCC, particularly because I'm a proud product of the California community college system. Though times are tough, I know the resolve of such students to not only overcome expectations, but blow them away, as they continue toward greatness," said Arrellano in a statement.

According to statement form the college, there will be a Grad Reception located on the north field after the commencement. During the event students can meet up with their families and take pictures with faculty members while enjoying refreshments and music.  More than 1,500 students will receive AA/AS degrees or certificates this year at LBCC.

The seating for commencement ceremony is free and on a first come, first serve basis. Parking will be free in Veteran’s Stadium, located off of Clark Avenue on Lew Davis Street in Long Beach.  For more information about commencement, click here.
