Penguins of Patagonia: Lecture

For twenty-eight years P. Dee Boersma, Ph.D. has studied the largest Magellanic Penguin colony in the world at Punta Tombo, Argentina. In her lecture she will share stories of the lives of Magellanic Penguins in the deserts of Patagonia. She will also discuss some of the more impressive facts about penguins. For instance, they can swim faster and dive deeper than any Olympian and can live more than thirty years. They fight for their nests, protect their eggs and chicks, and some walk nearly a mile inland to their nests.

Dr. Boersma is the Wadsworth Endowed Chair in Conservation Science in the University of Washington’s department of biology. She is also the honoree at the Aquarium’s 2012 Ocean Conservation Awards.
