Traffic Slowdown Expected Friday in East Long Beach
Transporting huge supplies from the Port of Long Beach to the Haynes Power Plant near Studebaker and Westminster Avenue may clog roads. Here's what to avoid.
Traffic tonight will likely be delayed on surface streets between the Port of Long Beach and the Haynes Generating Station in East Long Beach due to the slow-moving transport of something other than a giant-boulder.
Starting at 10 p.m., a large trailer truck will be used for the second night--and on future March nights--to deliver heavy equipment from the Port of Long Beach to the Department of Water and Power's Haynes plant in Long Beach. This means motorists in the area could encounter delays. You also can find real-time information and a map at Patch's traffic page.
The truck, which will be escorted by the California Highway Patrol, will be driven from Pier F in the Port of Long Beach along Pico Avenue north to Anaheim Street, where it will head east to southbound Pacific Coast Highway, then east on Second Street to the plant near the San Gabriel River.

The equipment will be used as part of a project to replace two aging generators and change the plant's cooling system from ocean water to dry cooling. The equipment is expected to reach the plant by 2 a.m.
