Tonight's Council Agenda and Thursday's Planning Meeting

Items of interest on the City Council agenda include seeing a budget proposal, finalizing redistricting and keeping police officers at high schools.

Mayor Bob Foster held a press conference earlier today to introduce his proposed 2012 fiscal budget (Patch story coming) that will also be discussed at tonight's Long Beach City Council meeting.

The Council will also vote to adopt the final redistricting plans from the July 5, 2011 meeting.

Also scheduled: The Long Beach Unified School District seeks to employ the Long Beach Police Department to position up to 5 School Resource Officers, or SROs, outside high school premises during school hours. Since 1999, in response to the Columbine shootings, the LBPD has participated in this program. LBUSD will shouder most the cost, though the City is asked to contribute about 17% of around $720,000.
