Ride Your Bike to Work Day for the Mayor

Bob Foster joins U.S. Olympian and Long Beach Bicycle Ambassador Tony Cruz will take five-mile photo op ride to promote May 14 Children's Hospital benefit.

Naples Island resident and Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster and  Tony Cruz, City of Long Beach Bicycle Ambassador, will launch 9 a.m. bike rides to work today to mark National Bike Month. May is a monthlong, heightened focus on cycling, and Foster and the U.S. Olympian--who evidently works at City Hall downtown as does Foster-- will take a five-mile route that happens to be part of the 2011 Tour of Long Beach course. Their ride serves to publicize the Tour of Long Beach on May 14. The 31-mile open course along the city's bike paths.  The Tour welcomes cyclers of any stamina level amateur cyclists and bicycle enthusiasts of all skill levels to ride. The cycling event is also a fundraiser in which all proceeds benefit Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach. Info can be found at www.touroflongbeach.com. (Foster lives in Naples so the ''ride to work" is not technically the Naples to Shoreline Drive leg of drive to City Hall; Foster will clock the five miles around the Tour course starting on Shoreline Drive: Major cross streets are Ocean Blvd. and Shoreline Dr.  Enter the parking lot from Shoreline Dr. and make a left to the east end of the parking lot.  Click here for a map.
