Power Outage at 2nd & PCH Tuesday--Wednesday

Marina Pacifica and other 2nd & PCH businesses were to lose power for 10 hours, Councilman Gary DeLong announced.

Power at Marina Pacifica mall and at In-N-Out Burger will be shutdown at 8 p.m. Tuesday for 10 hours by Southern California Edison while construction work is done by City of Long Beach Public Works to widen the 2nd Street and PCH intersection, Councilman Gary DeLong announced late Tuesday.

The outage will last until 6 a.m. Wednesday, DeLong wrote Tuesday at about 5 p.m. He said that SCE would have generators on hand but it was not clear if that would impact business operations at restaurants such as Buffalo Wild Wings, the AMC Theatre cinema or any of the other numerous merchants in the large mall. It was too late to reach anyone at Irvine-based In-N-Out Burger as to financial impact and it was also not clear if the gas station or MarketPlace businesses would be impacted.

As part of the Public Works project to expand the intersection at 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway, Southern California Edison will have to conduct a power switch-over, and, unfortunately, will have to shut down the entire Marina Pacifica Shopping Center, as well as the In-and-Out at that intersection, from 8:00pm beginning on the evening of September 11, 2012, and ending at 6:00am on the morning of September 12, 2012.

All affected businesses have been notified by SCE, and no residential customers are impacted by this outage.  SCE will have generators with lights on PCH as well as the Marina Pacific Shopping Center.

As you know, there have been a number of delays on this project, including, dealing with unknown active utilities (100 year old oil pipelines that weren't on any utility map).

However, once this work is completed the project can move forward and schedule the remaining work.  Assuming no unidentified obstacles appear, the project will finally be completed, in approximately 45 days.

If you have any questions or concerns about this work, please contact the Public Works project inspector at (562) 570-5160.

Thank You,

Gary DeLong
