Port of Long Beach Okays $1 Billion Budget Including New Bridge

Middle Harbor terminal and Gerald Desmond Bridge are part of $788 million capital improvement plan for 2014. Plenty of new jobs are expected.

A $1.02 billion budget for fiscal year 2014 has been approved by the Long Beach Harbor Commission that - at 6% more than last year - marks what the Port of Long Beach calls "the largest-ever capital improvement spending plan."

The Port of Long Beach announced that the $788 million in capital spending is part of the cost for the port's fiscal year running October 2013 to October 2014. The highest-ever operating revenue, at $375 million, was forecast.  And "the budget adds 52 new full-time positions, which include 33 in the Engineering Bureau to oversee the ongoing capital improvements and 12 in the Security Division to enhance operational integration with the Long Beach Police Department and other partnering security agencies."
