Several major freeway stretches will be closed at major construction projects in Southern California starting Saturday night and in some cases continuing all next week, officials at Caltrans said Saturday.
Just east of Long Beach, both directions of the San Diego (405) Freeway will be closed starting Sunday night between 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. the next day. The closures will affect the 405 from Seal Beach Boulevard west through the Seventh Street interchange. Through 405 traffic will be detoured via Valley View Street and Katella Avenue, and those closures will be in effect Sunday through Thursday nights.
Drivers were also warned that numerous connector ramps between the 405, San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and the Garden Grove (22) freeways will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in the same eastern Long Beach area.
In Norwalk, a $1 million bridge repair in Norwalk will affect drivers heading south on the 605 Freeway, hoping to head west on the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway. The transition road from the 605 south to the 105 west will be closed tonight at 10 p.m., and will remain closed through about 5 a.m. Monday for a bridge repair project.
In the San Gabriel Valley, the both directions of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway will be blocked off after midnight tonight east of the 605 freeway. The full freeway closure will start at midnight westbound, and at 1 a.m. eastbound, and will close the 10 east over about four miles, from the 605 to Puente Avenue.
Several ramps on the 605 Freeway will also be closed near the Interstate 10 interchange. In the Canyon Country area, lane closures on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway between Sand Canyon Road and the Sierra Highway ramps will begin at 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Just two lanes of the freeway in each direction will be kept open after 7 p.m. all next week, with that squeezed down to one lane after midnight.
Major construction continues on the Golden State (5) Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, with overnight lane restrictions and temporary ramp closures in effect all week near the Hollywood (170) Freeway junction. At least one lane in both directions of the 5 and 170 freeways will be kept open.
``Rampcramp'' continues in Westwood, with ramps between the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway and westbound Wilshire Boulevard out of commission until further notice.
In southern Orange County, a $1.4 million project to modernize and widen the Alicia Parkway interchange on Interstate 5 is set to start. During the next 90 days, some overnight closures will be set up on the freeway, but none are scheduled yet.
