UPDATE: Expect Traffic Hell on 710 Over by Tuesday

Construction delay will keep some lanes closed, forcing a detour between 105 and Bandini until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Updated: Tuesday 5 a.m. is when it's to be opened. Check the Pico Port of Long Beam ramps story because they are being closed today instead of Monday.

Beware the north 710 Freeway on Monday.

A portion of the under-construction highway that was supposed to reopen in time for the morning commute will now stay closed until Tuesday at 5 a.m., a Caltrans official told City News Service.

The foot-thick pavement that construction crews put down over the weekend is not thickening fast enough, Caltrans said.

That means northbound lanes on the 710 will remain closed between the 105 Freeway and the Atlantic/Bandini exit, spokeswoman Maria Raptis said.

Instead, northbound traffic will detour to the southbound side of the freeway, where a 45 mph speed limit will be enforced by the California Highway Patrol.

"Avoid the area if you can,'' Raptis said.
