Easter Is Not a Holiday From Feeding Parking Meters

City of Long Beach declares the Sunday spring holiday is not observed by city parking enforcement.

The City of Long Beach wants to remind shoppers and visitors as well as locals that the Easter Bunny won't be stuffing quarters into your parking meter Sunday. If normally parking is prohibited on Sunday in a given location, it will be so Easter Sunday as well.

The following notice was e-mailed to resident subscribers this week:

"Parking enforcement in the City of Long Beach follows an established schedule, as noted on meters throughout the City. Sunday, April 8, is not a legal holiday in the City of Long Beach, and all parking meters will continued to be enforced.

Below are a list of holidays the City officially observes. Please read the meters for further information. If your meter is labeled "not enforced on holidays", payment is not required on these holidays:

New Year's Day
Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday
Presidents Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Those wishing to avoid parking meters may consider alternative forms of transportation. As one of the most Bike Friendly Cities in America, Long Beach recently installed 1,450 decorative bicycle racks throughout the City. These innovative racks offer year-round parking spaces for bicycles free of charge. Using largely Federal and State funds the City has increased the miles of bike facilities by nearly 30 percent, and by the end of 2014 will have increased it by over 66 percent. By 2014, the City anticipates nearly 150 miles of bicycle routes will be available throughout Long Beach.
