Belmont Indoor Pools Reopen Today

Belmont Shore's popular indoor public pools will reopen after three months, and an open-house to celebrate the occasion will be held Monday. Normal hours and spring class schedules will resume Tuesday.

The outdoor pools were not impacted.

The two heavily-used enclosed pools near the base of the Belmont pier traditionally close for about a month of resurfacing and maintenance each fall, usually in September. But the Belmont pool was closed for several weeks longer, and shortly after it reopened it was closed in Mid-December for further repairs.

City Manager Pat West sent an e-mail notice about the Belmont Plaza reopenng and open house to Long Beach residents that went on as follows:

The indoor pool at Belmont Plaza Pool, 4000 Olympic Plaza will re-open to the public with an open house on Monday, March 26. During the day the public is invited to tour the pool, use the facilities and see the changes during extended hours from 5:30 am - 2 pm and from 4 - 7 pm.

The pool has been closed for repairs since mid December.

Indoor Pool Hours Beginning Tuesday, March 27
Monday - Friday: 5:30 - 9 am; 11 am - 2 pm; and 4 -7 pm.
Saturdays: 8 am - 2 pm.

Outdoor Pool
Belmont Plaza's outdoor pool, heated to a comfortable 82 degrees, will be remain open for lap swimming through June 16 at the following times:

Monday - Friday: 7 - 9 am; 11 am - 2 pm.
Saturdays: 8 am - 12 pm.

"The Belmont Plaza Pool is an important part of the Long Beach aquatic community," said Councilmember Gary DeLong. "I look forward to restoring public access to the many swim classes and sessions we offer at this wonderful facility."

Water exercise classes and swim lessons will return to Belmont Plaza Pool with sessions set to begin on March 26 and May 14.  Registration for swim lessons is available online at www.lbparks.org or at the pool during scheduled open hours.  Please call the pool at 562.570.1806 for information regarding these programs.
