Alcohol Licenses in Belmont Shore: a Breakdown

ABC Official Vincent Cravens, who's local office administers licenses for Belmont Shore, was to explaiin how alcohol licenses are requested, granted and then policed. Belmont Shore has had ongoing controversy over recent years about alcohol sales on Second Street, whether its adequately managed by the city or the state ABC. Some say too many, some say sky's the limit and the market will decide for itself.

The number of licenses is determined by population as per the U.S. Census. Cravens said that ABC guidelines allow one alcohol license per 2,000 people and that means Belmont Shore should have around six or seven, and instead has 20 or more.

In fact, if the ABC's numbers are current online, it allows 8 but licensed 44. The breakdown of which Census Tract is where, and the allowances for it, are below. These Census tracts comprise most of Belmont Shore.
