7th Street Closure to Be Detailed at Saturday Meeting

Long Beach Councilwoman Gerry Schipske and the OCTA will brief residents on how a $277 million freeway project will affect East Long Beach.

The impending shutdown of the Seventh Street connection to the 405 and 22 freeways--sometime this month, no date announced--will be discussed at a neighborhood meeting Saturday morning with city and Orange County transit officials. Long Beach Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) are holding the gathering to answer questions about the project that's causing the closure, the West County Connectors Project, and the best way for residents to deal with it.

Seventh Street is the closest freeway connection to Cal State Long Beach, the Veterans Administration Hospital and much of East Long Beach. CSULB has the largest student enrollment of any Cal State in California.

The WCC Project will connect carpool lanes on the 22, 405 and 605 freeways to create a seamless carpool connection. The project will close the northbound I-405 / westbound SR-22 / Seventh Street connector for one year, starting this month.
