Update: Woman Shot to Death in Long Beach

Officers responding to a report of gunfire found the woman, whose age and name were not released, laying in the street. A motive was still under investigation.

Update: the Long Beach Police Department has blocked traffic on Cherry Avenue between 15th and 17th streets as part of the investigation so detours should be planned.

Police early Wednesday were investigating the shooting death of a woman in Long Beach.

The woman was found on the ground by officers dispatched to the 1600 block of Cherry Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday in response to a shots-fired call, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. Her name was not immediately released. Anyone with information about the slaying was urged to contact the Long Beach police Homicide Detail at (562) 570-7244.
