Two Long Beach Men Shot, One Fatally, on West Side

West Long Beach shooting victims were not gang members but police suspect their attackers were.

Two men were shot, one fatally, in a West Long Beach neighborhood by suspected gang members Friday night, and one of the victims died Saturday of his wounds, the Long Beach Police Department said.

Early investigation suggests neither victim was a gang member, said a press release issued Saturday afternoon by Nancy Pratt, a department spokeswoman.

The two men were walking in the area of 67th Street and Butler Avenue, northwest of the Long Beach and Riverside freeways, when they were confronted by a man also on foot, Pratt wrote. The gunman shot both men then hopped in a car driven by someone else. There was no description of the suspects.
