Transient Woman Killed on Pacific Coast Highway

Long Beach police department said the driver was not cited in the Tuesday collision.

A 51-year-old homeless woman was struck by a car and killed early Tuesday after she allegedly stepped into the road on Pacific Coast Highway, the Long Beach Police Department said.

The woman has not been identified. The driver of the vehicle was not cited, police said.

Officers were called to the scene near the 710 Freeway at 5:40 a.m., when the collision occured, according to a press statement.

"The investigation revealed that a 2007 Kia Rondo was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway, when an adult female pedestrian walking on the side of the road stepped into the roadway and was struck, the release said. "She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, and at this time is only being identified as a 51-year-old female transient, pending notification to her family."

The driver, 55, was unharmed and questioned but not cited, police said.
