Three Long Beach Arson Cases Solved

Long Beach Fire Department arson investigators have solved three separate Long Beach arson cases, the department announced last week.

According to Long Beach Fire Department captain Jim Arvizu, three arrests were made between Feb. 15 and Feb. 19 in connection with three separate arson investigations.

On Feb. 15, a female suspect was arrested in the 800 block of Hoffman for an alleged connection with a fire set the previous day in the 1000 block of Orange Avenue. Arvizu said the woman was charged with arson of an inhabited structure and also allegedly violated her probation.

One day later, a male suspect was arrested for allegedly burning his vehicle near the intersection of 17th Street and Daisy in August 2012. The man was later charged with arson and insurance fraud, Arvizu said.

The final arrest came on Feb. 19 when another male suspect was arrested by police on suspicion of showing false identification to police and burning without a permit.

According to Arvizu, the man was initially contacted by firefighters after allegedly setting fire to belongings in the backyard of his apartment. Authorities said the man told firefighters he knew it was wrong to burn things in public.

Four hours later, Arvizu said the man was still burning items in his backyard and was arrested.
