Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Wounded

Police find a Long Beach woman dead and her male companion critically injured at the Orange Avenue apartment where they lived.

A woman was shot to death and the man she lived with was critically wounded late Monday afternoon in an apartment complex on Orange Avenue in Long Beach, police say.

At about 5:20 p.m. officers answered a report of shooting in the 600 block of Orange, the Long Beach Police Department reports in a news release issued Tuesday. The woman, 27, and was pronounced dead at the scene and the 26-year-old man who resided there with her was hospitalized in critical condition, the LBPD statement says. Both shooting victims were identified by LBPD as being from Long Beach, but the department said that it is withholding their names until their relatives are notified.

The LBPD says the man and woman were "in a relationship" but the circumstances of the shootings remain under investigation, Those with information about the incident are asked by LBPD to call homicide detectives Hugo Cortes and Peter Lackovic at (562) 570-7355.
