Police Search for Potential Victims of Man Accused of Soliciting Sex From a Minor

Long Beach police today urged people to contact them if they were victimized by a man who allegedly solicited a minor for a sex act.

Shamalar Fields, 36, of Los Angeles, was arrested on Sept. 28 and booked on suspicion of annoying a child, the Long Beach Police Department reported. He was released that day after posting $20,000 bail.     Fields is employed as a state public safety officer at Exposition Park, Long Beach police said.

On Sept. 28, Fields allegedly approached a minor -- whose age and gender were not made public -- near Atlantic Avenue and 68th Street, and solicited him or her for a sex act, police said.

Police were notified, and an officer questioned the alleged victim.

"The victim informed the officer that they had been approached by the suspect ... who had driven up to the victim, who was on foot, and solicited for a sex act," police stated.

Fields, who was still in the area, was arrested, police said.

"After a three-week investigation, detectives presented the case to the Long Beach City Prosecutor's Office, (which) filed one misdemeanor count of annoying a child," police said.
