Police Helicopter Chased Belmont Heights Burglar

Long Beach police said the city's chopper was circling the Belmont Shore area late Sunday searching for an intruder.

Wondering what all the helicopter traffic was about Sunday night?

Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Cynthia Arrona confirmed Patch readers' reports of a a helicopter circling at length in the area of Ximeno late Sunday.

At least one suspect was captured, Arrona said, but further details are planned for release later this week as part of information about a series of incidents.

From about 10 p.m. to nearly 11 p.m. Sunday, a police helicopter and police cars saturated the Belmont Heights area of Ximeno between Broadway and Vista, residents told Patch.

"We had the copter flying over low and circling for way over 30 minutes," reported one resident who lives near the above intersection. "It was actually very unsettling!"

Said Arrona, "The police helicopter was assisting patrol officers with a burglary investigation about that time." She confirmed there was an arrest.

Patch will report news about this as we hear it. In the meantime, stay patched in with our daily newsletter and breaking news alerts, and follow us (and like us) on Facebook and Twitter.

The home invasion issues will not get better as long as homeless and Illegal Aliens are allowed to wander through tha allies and go through peoples trash cans... More than a few times I have seen them looking over fences...

I was almost a victim of the Belmont Shore rapist in 1980. By the grace of God & my sister arriving home unexpected, he left. I was able to ID him through photo line-ups at the LB Police Station - he was eventually arrested and convicted. Now she lives EXACTLY on Ximeno between Vista & Broadway - she frequently reports suspicious people lingering in the alley. Since we have been in the shore, circa 1975 there has always been an element of risk with peeping-toms, rapists, burglars, auto break-ins. Perhaps more Neighborhood Watch Programs and Police Patrols are needed? What do you think????????
