Police Saturday offer new details about the death of a man who stepped off a curb in Long Beach and was struck by a Range Rover.

Long Beach Police Department said Saturday that a 62-year-old driver did not have time to stop his Range Rover before it fatally struck a pedestrian who stepped into Seventh Street Friday night.

The victim's name was not released until his family could be contacted, but he was described as a 59-year-old San Pedro resident who was declared dead at the crash site, Sgt. Aaron Eaton said by e-mail.
