Six Southern California Edison employees were hospitalized and 20 others were treated for nausea and headaches outside a Long Beach Call Center today after a strong odor from an unknown source spread through the building.
According to the utility, about 300 people work at the center, and the facility was evacuated when the odor was first detected shortly before noon.
Workers were evacuated from the building at 125 Elm St. and taken to a parking lot staging area.
Customer service calls were being routed to other call centers. A fire department hazardous materials crew was searching for the source of the odor, according to Edison.
