New Details and Motorcyclists Named in 2nd Street Fatal Crash

An SUV driver making an "unsafe" turn in Belmont Shore Friday night struck two motorcyclists from Huntington Beach, resulting in the death of one and injury of the other, Long Beach Police Department said Saturday.

Taryn Hawk, 35, died at the scene with major head trauma, and Joseph Daroza, 30, was hospitalized in stable condition after the 8:45 p.m. accident on Second Street at Glendora Avenue, LBPD said in a news release. The Toyota Sequoia driver, Nicholas Limer, 68, of Long Beach, was interviewed and may face criminal charges, police said Saturday.

The Harley Davidson drivers were heading east on Second Street in the #2 lane and crossing Glendora Avenue on a green light when they struck the 2005 Sequoia as it made "an unsafe left turn" in front of them to head south on Glendora, the news release stated.

Limer "was not injured in the collision and was interviewed and released," the release continued. "Detectives will present the case to the District Attorney's Office for possible criminal charges."

Limer could not be reached Saturday night.
