Long Beach Police On the Streets Today in Murder Case

Long Beach police today are canvassing a neighborhood where the murder took place.

More information continues to be released in the year-old case of a Lake Elsinore man who was killed during a robbery in Long Beach.

Thanks to new leads in the case, the Long Beach Police Department now has composite sketches of two men wanted in connection with the murder of Lake Elsinore resident Franklin Robles, who was killed during a robbery on Aug. 9, 2010, in the 1400 Block of W. 16th Street in Long Beach.

A preliminary investigation revealed that victim had come to Long Beach to purchase a vehicle, according to police. Once at the location, Robles was approached and robbed by two male black suspects. During the robbery, Robles was shot and later died from his wounds, according to police.

Witnesses report that the two suspects fled in a dark colored van, according to police.

Several hours after the murder, a witness in Lake Elsinore reported seeing a tan Chevy Suburban with two black males and two Hispanic males at the victim’s residence, according to police.

Robles’ home was burglarized within hours of his murder and detectives believe the four suspects are responsible and may also be connected to his death, according to police.

The two black males in the Suburban match the description of the murder suspects, according to police. The two are described as:

Suspect #1 – black male, 35 to 40 years old, 5’11” to 6’0” tall weighing 220 to 230 lbs. with short black hair. According to police, witnesses say he looked "like a thug.”

Suspect #2 – black male, 40 to 45 years old, 6’0 to 6’1” tall weighing 200 to 210 lbs. with short grayish/black hair.

Detectives are still working on composite sketches of the male Hispanic suspects. 

Today, Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood where the murder occurred, according to a LBPD news release. They are handing out Public Information Bulletins to residents and businesses that provide information about the murder and the composite sketches.
