Missing 2 Children and Disabled Woman Found

The woman and two children missing from a Long Beach fast food restaurant since Saturday evening took public transportation and ended up in Sylmar, where a passenger on the Metro train recognized their photos from media reports.

Police in Sylmar today found three people -- a woman with a mild mental handicap and two young children -- two days after they were last seen leaving a Long Beach fast food restaurant, and all appeared to be OK.

Marie Williams, 25, Sarah White, 8, and Nicholas Sanders, 6, had left an apartment complex near Santa Fe Avenue and Spring Street about 4:45 p.m. Saturday to walk to a fast food restaurant, according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.

Police said the trio had arrived at the restaurant at closing time, around 6 p.m. Saturday, and were turned away. The trio was last seen walking north on Santa Fe Avenue. They were found apparently unharmed about 8:30 a.m. in Sylmar, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The three are not related. Williams has been staying at the complex with a cousin until a new group home can be found for her, KNBC reported. White is from the Palmdale area and was in Long Beach with her mother visiting friends who live at the complex. Sanders and his family also reside at the complex.

Pratt said the three were in the custody of Los Angeles police officers, and Long Beach officers were en route to collect them.
