Men Found Shot To Death On Long Beach Freeway Identified

Reginald Watson Sajonas, 37, of Anaheim, and Derek Alexander Pouono, 36, of Long Beach, were found shot to death inside a Honda Pilot along the northbound shoulder between Atlantic Avenue and the junction with the Long Beach (710) Freeway about 9:30 p.m.

Two men found shot to death in an SUV on the 405 Freeway Saturday were identified Sunday.

Reginald Watson Sajonas, 37, of Anaheim, and Long Beach-resident Derek Alexander Pouono, 36, of , were found dead inside a Honda Pilot along the northbound shoulder between Atlantic Avenue and the junction with the Long Beach (710) Freeway about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to authorities.

It was unclear if the men were shot in a car-to-car shooting, but the vehicle reportedly had bullet holes in it. It came to rest near the exit to Long Beach Boulevard.

The CHP was notified of the SUV's location around 9:30 p.m. Saturday and officers found two dead bodies inside, according to Long Beach Police Sgt. Rico Fernandez.

California Highway Patrol officers reported hearing gunfire from a southbound vehicle shortly after arriving at the scene, but police said those shots appeared unrelated to the deaths, which were being investigated as a double homicide.

Traffic was diverted off the freeway at Atlantic Avenue while the California Highway Patrol and Long Beach conducted the investigation.

Police are investigating the deaths as a double homicide, Fernandez said. No description of a suspect or a suspect vehicle was available. The victims' names were withheld.

The freeway was closed for about five hours.
