Man Shot Near Long Beach Polytechnic High School

Long Beach police say no students were involved and gang detectives are investigating.

A man on a bicycle was wounded adjacent to Long Beach Polytechnic High School this afternoon, but the shooting was not believed to have any campus connection. The victim is listed in serious condition.

The shooting occurred at Atlantic Avenue and Esther Street at 4:21 p.m., said Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department.

Eaton said gang detectives were investigating the crime, but said there was no immediate indication the shooting was gang-related.

Eaton said the man was shot in the torso, but there was no immediate word on his condition or identity. Police also did not release suspect information.

There were some students on the campus for after-school activities at the time of the shooting, but they were unaffected, he said.
