A 49-year-old Long Beach resident who allegedly was in violation of a restraining order and holding a gun when he was shot by police was in custody Sunday.
Greg Treadway was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault against a police officer with a firearm, burglary, and violation of a restraining order, according to Long Beach police officials.
The shooting occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Park Avenue, officials said.
Police, called to the home to investigate the alleged violation of a restraining order, arrived to learn that a gunman was on the driveway, officials said.
An officer approached the suspect and when he failed to put down the gun, police fired at him, officials said.
Investigators recovered a pistol at the scene, officials said.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators determined that the suspect came to the home, broke into the garage and retrieved a pistol; he was walking toward the front of the home when the shooting occurred, officials said.
His former girlfriend, the person named on the restraining order, was inside the home, police said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will be conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, as they do with all officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County that result in injury or death.
