Man Killed in Phillips Street Shooting Saturday Night

The fatal shooting came just 25 minutes after another man was wounded by gunfire in the area of Locust Street and Del Amo Boulevard.

A man was fatally wounded in a shooting in north Long Beach, a police spokeswoman said today.

The shooting occurred at about 9:10 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of East Phillips Street, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

"The victim was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter," Pratt said. No suspect information was available, she said.

The incident was being investigated as gang-related.

Part of that investigation was whether the shooting is related to another about 25 minutes earlier in the area of Locust Street and Del Amo Boulevard, Pratt said. A man was also the victim at that shooting, she said. "The victim was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries," Pratt said.
